Protecting Your Research Investment
Forethought in engineering is an ongoing achievement at RHK. Our building block design allows our customers to fully upgrade at a fraction of the price of a new system. Other SPM companies force their users to choose between obsolescence and a new sticker price. RHK’s history of affordable modular upgrades reflects a special commitment to protecting your investment over a lifetime.

STM Scanner to AFM/STM Dual-Function Scan Head
Advancing to AFM is a simple modular upgrade for your RHK STM. Our unique bolt-on assembly readily interchanges with your existing head to provide a streamlined, cost-effective upgrade to the world’s most respected AFM design.

Our systems utilize laser-deflected position sensitive detection (PSD) feedback with a simple optical path, intuitive alignment, and true lateral force imaging. Add our industry-leading PLLPro™ electronics (see p. 5) for full-range AFM: normal force, lateral force, non-contact, intermittent contact, constant height, CAFM, MFM, simultaneous AFM/STM, and more.

With our dual-function scan head upgrade, you gain the advantages of AFM while retaining STM functionality, both conveniently housed on the same scan head and both effortlessly used without breaking vacuum.

Sample Temperature to Variable Temp (25K to 1500K)
Expanding your research for variable temperature (VT) operation simply takes an easy sample stage upgrade from RHK. Our VT upgrade is configured to enable the widest range of capabilities
and applications.

Each of our uniquely designed sample holders works across the full range of extreme temperatures. For cooling, choose either LN2 to reach below 100K, or LHe to achieve 25K or less. For heating, our holders are equipped with built-in direct current, radiative, and e-beam capabilities and can provide temperatures above 1500K. Use a tungsten filament for radiative or e-beam heating, or a quartz lamp for reactive gases or under pressure.

Our VT design is implemented intelligently. True sample temperatures are measured with thermocouples in direct contact with the sample, eliminating unreliable indirect readings. Sapphire mounts minimize thermal transfer during heating yet maximize it for cooling. Electrical isolation provides low-noise measurement of tunneling current and allows e-beam heating for sample preparation.

Take your environment to new extremes with Variable Temperature

Vibration Isolation to Full Stage Spring Suspension
Vibration isolation is key to successful imaging. Unfortunately, many laboratories are not ideally situated on basement bedrock in quiet buildings far from rumbling traffic. Thankfully, a straightforward upgrade to RHK’s most advanced spring suspension sample stage could overcome real-life environments that challenge nanoscale research.

Your UHV 300/350 is already cushioned by internal Viton isolation, in unison with our inherently stiff Beetle design and possibly air legs. But if your lab conditions or research require even greater protection, RHK can help. Our migration path allows you to strengthen your vibration defense while keeping your existing RHK STM or AFM.

The upgrade combines state-of-the-art internal spring suspension with eddy current dampening for maximum isolation. Your entire scanning platform is sheltered from vibration as the stage and microscope float in uniform, harmonious motion. With a spring-suspended stage, our microscopes will assure the most pristine and placid conditions for your highly sensitive research.

Move to full suspension and achieve...stillness
