Microscope: Home-built atomic force microscope in a He-3 cryostat
Controls: SPM 1000 Control System
Description: Single-electron charging events of a quantum dot that forms in a semiconducting carbon nanotube at temperature T=4K, visualized by an atomic force microscope using resonance frequency shift microscopy. The quantum dot is located at the center of the concentric rings. As the tip moves towards the quantum dot, a single electron tunnels onto the quantum dot each time the tip crosses a dark line.
