Each VT stage includes both direct heating and your option of a tungsten filament or quartz lamp. RHK offers the widest range of temperature options on a single sample stage.
VT stage with Tungsten Filament
Our standard variable temperature stage with a tungsten filament gives you access to both radiative and e-beam heating options, along with resistive (direct) heating for a wide range of variable temperature applications.
VT stage with Quartz Lamp
The quartz lamp option (in place of the tungsten filament) allows radiative heating in a wide range of operating conditions, including reactive gasses.

Variable temperature stages also include the option of Liquid Nitrogen or Liquid Helium cooling - giving you a wide variety of temperature control options.
Cooling with the Beetle Design
RHK’s variable temperature UHV SPM offers advantages not available with other designs - low noise and good isolation when cooling. By using a copper braid to deliver the cooling medium, much of the vibration and bubbling noises from the cryostat are reduced.
In the Beetle type SPM, the scanning head is standing directly on the sample holder, the vibrations and bubbling noises which transfer through the copper foil will not directly couple into the tip/sample junction. In addition, its compact structure and high resonant frequency, permits the scan head to reject external disturbances.
Therefore, one can easily achieve high resolution while cooling. With other designs there will be residual noises that couple directly into the tip/sample gap. This relative motion between the SPM and sample will degrade the performance.
